Why We Do What We Do

We believe the health and effectiveness of a ministry begins with the people who lead it. Gifted leaders, aligned with the heart and vision of an organization, can shape culture, multiply impact, and help people flourish. At Shepherd Staff, our work is more than staffing – it’s ministry to ministries. We walk closely with churches, schools, and faith-based organizations to help them discern what kind of leader they truly need, then guide them through a thoughtful, prayerful process to find that person. It’s not just about filling a role. It’s about advancing the Kingdom through healthy leadership and helping organizations thrive for the long haul.

Our Story

A Little About Us

The church staffing industry began in 2001 with the launch of the first dedicated search firm, helping churches see the value of partnering with experts who understood ministry leadership. That firm served many churches successfully, but over time, its philosophy drifted from the values of the local church. This shift led several original team members to start something new – something more aligned with the heart of the ministries they served.

Shepherd Staff was founded in 2006 by Jim Nutt, with a vision to help churches navigate leadership transitions with integrity and care. Shortly after, Greg Allen joined Jim, helping to grow and shape the firm. Greg soon became a co-founder and later took full ownership as President.

Since then, the original firm has become defunct – making Shepherd Staff the veteran church staffing firm still serving today. Our longevity reflects our commitment to faithful service and healthy leadership transitions.

As our reputation grew, educational institutions and faith-based nonprofits began seeking the same approach. In 2024, we launched a dedicated department to serve these organizations with the same excellence we’ve brought to churches for years.

Today, under the leadership of CEO Brian Coday and President Greg Allen, Shepherd Staff continues to grow – staying true to the mission that shaped our beginning: helping ministries thrive by helping them find the right people.
