How to Write a Ministry Resume That Gets Noticed

executive pastor search firm, church staffing, succession planning

A strong ministry resume is more than a job history—it’s a snapshot of your calling, your experience, and your impact in the Kingdom. Here’s what to include:

1. Lead with Your Calling.
Include a brief ministry objective or calling statement. This isn’t fluff—it sets the tone and helps a church see your heart.

2. Make It Clear and Readable.
Avoid overly complex formatting. Use headings like Ministry ExperienceEducationLicensure & Ordination, and Skills. Use a consistent font and spacing.

3. Prioritize Ministry Roles.
List ministry experience in reverse chronological order. Include the church name, location, your title, dates served, and 2–4 bullet points describing your key responsibilities and accomplishments.

4. Quantify When Possible.
Metrics build credibility. Include things like “Oversaw a team of 12 volunteers,” “Grew student ministry attendance from 25 to 60,” or “Increased giving by 18% year-over-year.”

5. Add a Personal Section.
Briefly mention your family, interests, and even your favorite books or podcasts—it humanizes you and reflects your pastoral personality.
